Our Daily Bread 24 October 2017 Devotional – Jesus in Disguise

Topic: Jesus in Disguise — Tuesday October 24, 2017.

Read: Matthew 25:31–40, Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 3–5; 1 Timothy 4

Whatever you did for one of the least of these . . . you did for me. - Matthew 25:40

When a friend cared for her housebound mother-in-law, she asked her what she longed for the most. Her mother-in-law said, “For my feet to be washed.” My friend admitted, “How I hated that job! Each time she asked me to do it I was resentful, and would ask God to hide my feelings from her.”

But one day her grumbling attitude changed in a flash. As she got out the bowl and towel and knelt at her mother-in-law’s feet, she said, “I looked up, and for a moment I felt like I was washing the feet of Jesus Himself. She was Jesus in disguise!” After that, she felt honored to wash her mother-in-law’s feet.

When I heard this moving account, I thought of Jesus’s story about the end of time that He taught on the slopes of the Mount of Olives. The King welcomes into His kingdom His sons and daughters, saying that when they visited the sick or fed the hungry, “Whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me” (Matt. 25:40). We too serve Jesus Himself when we visit those in prison or give clothes to the needy.

Today, might you echo my friend, who now wonders when she meets someone new, “Are you Jesus in disguise?”

Prayer: Lord Jesus Christ, You can transform the most mundane of tasks. Help me to love others in Your name.

When we serve others, we serve Jesus.

Insight:

Matthew 25:31–40 is a powerful reminder of Jesus’s care for those who are hurting. In fact, since the “least of these” (v. 40) in Matthew consistently refers to followers of Jesus (see 10:42; 18:6), the passage implies we are likely to find true believers in Jesus in circumstances of great suffering. Those who are not in such suffering are judged on their willingness to serve and join with those who are. When they do, they encounter Jesus Himself (v. 40).

When have you most strongly experienced the presence of Jesus through being with someone who was suffering?

Andrew Wommack’s Daily 24 October 2017 Devotional - Let God Prune You His Way

Topic: Let God Prune You His Way – Tuesday October 24, 2017.

John 15:2 "Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit."

Text: John 15:2

This purging has been interpreted in many ways. The illustration that Jesus is using is one of pruning; therefore, some have said this purging is a very painful process where the Lord cuts and slashes us through things like sickness, death, poverty, and other forms of tragedy so that eventually we will bear more fruit. This teaching not only promotes problems as being good, but necessary, if we want to bear more fruit.

That thinking is not consistent with the rest of God's Word or even the context of this verse. The text makes it very clear that the purging that Jesus speaks of is done through the Word that He has spoken unto us.

Paul said in 2 Timothy 3:16-17 that God's Word was given to us "for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works." That is God's method of pruning us, and He doesn't need the devil's help. His word will make us "perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works."

That is not to say that we cannot learn through tragedy: but God has a better way. If we mistakenly think that God is bringing tragedy into our lives to make us more fruitful, then we'll not resist the tragedies and they will not flee from us. All of us will learn by hard knocks, but the man who welcomes them with wide open arms will suffer greatly and be far behind the man who lets God's Word have His perfect work in him.

Billy Graham’s Daily 24 October 2017 Devotional: Prejudice Is Weakness

Topic: Prejudice Is Weakness [Tuesday October 24, 2017]

Judge not, that ye be not judged.— Matthew 7:1

The word prejudice means “prejudging” or “making an estimate of others without knowing the facts.” Prejudice is a mark of weakness, not of strength. Prejudice is measured by computing the distance between our own biased opinions and the real truth. If we would all be perfectly honest before God, there would be no prejudice.

Prayer for the day: You love each one of us with a love that breaks through all prejudicial barriers, Father. Forgive me for the times I judge others. Purify my heart, that I may be used to draw people together into the bond of Christ's unifying love.

Basic Scripture: Ecclesiastes 3:1-8

Welcome to today’s devotional encounter with He that is the Chief inventor, the Genesis, the Author, the Convener, the Sustainer and the Finisher or your destiny!

The Holy Ghost is reminding you that no matter how your year 2017 has been, to everything there is a reason and a time to every purpose (Verse 1 in today’s basic text). Whether you are depressed, weep, murmur, complain or use every physical effort at your disposal, I want you to know that until your time for a miracle is up, you are wasting your time. If you don’t have your expectation fulfilled yet, be patient. Don’t fight God secretly in your heart! His calendar for you is on course.

This is the last quarter of this year! Many have died since the year began! That the devil could not kill you and you are alive to be reading this write-up shows that you will be celebrated on this earth, because when there is life, there is hope! Someone said, “The haste of a fool is the slowest thing in the world.”Worry and haste slows down every dream and opens the door for failure and shame!

Never make the mistake of comparing yourself to the people that are ahead of you already. Don’t forget that even the formal Head of Microsoft Corporation, Mr. Bill Gates (also the official richest man in the world today with a personal fortune of over 86 billion dollars), said it took him 26 years when he had a desire/vision , to place a computer on every desk in most homes. He said that the road had been rough and many times, he had felt like switching jobs. But within a quarter of a century, most homes in the developed countries can boast of a computer.

Even though the developing countries are not ‘set free’ yet, he believes his vision is not in vain. Please no matter how it takes, wait! Life is lived in seasons. Your own time for breakthrough is nearer than you think. Premature victory is dangerous! Remember that destiny is an adventure you have to keep pace with. Never forget that the greatest killer of dreams is haste: The desire to reach out for things before the divinely appointed time. Please understand that: There is a time to make things happen and a time to let things happen. Heaven has a great plan for you! Wait! Look up! You will never end up in shame!

Prayer Points: Take this song: Because He lives…

1. Lord of my times and seasons, I wait upon you! I shall not be ashamed (Pray this point seriously).

2. Spirit of self-pity, comparison and haste, loose my family and me and go now in Jesus name!

3. Ask for the grace to wait concerning … (Mention any battle or problem confronting you). Pray about today now!

Maintaining Purity in Courtship (4) by Pastor Faith Oyedepo

Topic: Maintaining Purity in Courtship (4)

Dear Reader,

God is interested in your marriage being successful. As I said in the previous teaching, what you do with the foundation laying stage of marriage, which is courtship, determines how successful your marriage would be. Therefore, to have a successful marriage, the most important thing is to ensure that you follow God’s principles, which He laid down when He designed marriage. The irony is, when we focus on His principles instead of our pleasure, we end up having a very satisfying and pleasant marriage!

Courtship is about open and honest exploration of each other’s lives and families, leading to engagement and marriage. Courtship is about preparation for marriage. You court in order to see if there is any reason you shouldn’t get married. There is no romantic interaction until after the commitment to marriage (wedding). This does not mean that you don’t love your spouse to be. The Bible says: Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. There is none other commandment greater than these (Mark 12:31). Loving him or her could mean disciplining, correcting and exhorting each other, to change. Other times it may be to quash a selfish desire in your heart in favour of their desires. Basically, it means taking the focus off yourself and looking at what you can invest in the other person.

Therefore, in the context of courtship there are two neighbours that we should love (i.e. keep their best interests at heart). Firstly, there is our future spouse. Keeping his or her best interests at heart would result in things like saving your sexual and emotional purity for her or him, developing your character and preparing resources for a stable marriage with him or her, etc.

Secondly, there is the future spouse of that person you are interested in. Unless you are ready for marriage, you should not be having ’emotional exchanges’ with any member of the opposite sex. You should treat every friend as though they will be someone else’s spouse. Loving that spouse as a neighbour means treating this person as a brother or sister in Christ, not defrauding their emotions or their purity but investing in them without motive for selfish gain.

Some people wonder about a relationship where there is ‘no romantic involvement before marriage’ and the possibility that a couple could get married only to find out they have no sexual or romantic feelings for each other. To clarify, however, my conviction is that you shouldn’t be romantically involved until after the commitment to marriage (wedding). Keep your romantic emotions for your husband or your wife. This is the only way that you only romance one partner in your lifetime.

If you allow the romance before the commitment, then there is the possibility of several romances, with all the pain and emotional baggage that it entails. The Word of God says: So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies (Ephesians 5:28 & 33) Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself. From the above passages you can see the underlined words.

Thus the Bible says: “love the one you married” rather than to “marry the one you love.” That is why the above verses say, “Men love your wives”. Romantic emotions should be reserved for marriage not for courtship. This is because when you get romantically involved and eventually the courtship happens to break due to incompatibility, often times these results in hurt. Therefore, keep all romantic emotions till after the wedding to avoid heart-break and hurt. Have you ever wondered while some in a relationship go mad when the relationship breaks? The Word of God says: What? know ye not that he which is joined to an harlot is one body? for two, saith he, shall be one flesh (1Corinthians 6:16).

Getting romantically involved is like being joined to become one flesh with whom you are courting. Any break in that relationship will amount to literally tearing the flesh. Be wise and don’t get emotionally involved during courtship. Let your emotions be intact. Guard your heart with all diligence because out of it are the issues that will make your marriage successful. This courtship period is quite a vulnerable period but the boundaries God has set are for the protection and preservation of your heart from hurt. It is also for the protection of your future marriage from shame that comes when the marriage bed is defiled. Take it in good faith because the commandments of God are not grievous, but they are meant to groom us.

From the foregoing, you need the help of God to maintain purity in your courtship so as to enjoy the honour in marriage. This help is obtainable by accepting Jesus as your Lord and personal Saviour as you say this prayer: “Dear Lord Jesus Christ, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins and cleanse me with Your Blood. I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Make me a child of God today. Thank You for delivering me from sin and satan to serve the living God and thank You for accepting me into Your Kingdom.”

Congratulations, you are now born -again! If you prayed this simple prayer of faith with me, you are now a child of God. He loves you and will never leave you. Read your Bible daily, obey God’s Word and seek Christian fellowship (John 14:21).

Topic: God Goes Too! [Tuesday October 24, 2017]

But the person who is united to the Lord becomes one spirit with Him. - 1 Corinthians 6:17, The Amplified Bible

I once heard about a great man of God who looked in the mirror every day when he put on his suit and said, "Suit, everywhere you go today, God goes in you." And you know, he's right. If you have united yourself to God by receiving Jesus as Lord, everywhere you go today...God goes too!

As believers, we need to start becoming more conscious of that. We need to train ourselves to be constantly aware of God inside of us, talking to us, teaching us, counseling us, empowering us and enduing us with Himself.

We need to continually remind ourselves that we are one spirit with Him. That means that every time we face a problem, every time we face an evil spirit that tries to influence and hinder our lives, God is facing it too. When we meet those things, God meets them. And He's already overcome them!

Let me encourage you when you get dressed today to look in the mirror and say, "I am united to the Lord and I have become one spirit with Him. Body, everywhere you go today...God goes. God is in you. The power of God is in you. The wisdom of God is in you. The victory of God is in you."

Say that to yourself every day—many times a day. Keep doing it until you begin to develop the habit of thinking that way. Cultivate a constant awareness of the reality of God living in you!

Scripture: And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up: That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.John 3:14-15

Thought For The Day: Whatever captures your attention captures your direction, and your attention sponsors distinction.

The background story of our anchor scripture is where the Israelites sinned against God in the wilderness and God sent fiery serpents to bite them and many of them died. But when the Israelites cried unto God, God instructed Moses to make a brazen serpent and hang it on a stick so that whosoever looked up to the serpent on the stick would be saved.

Now, just as Moses lifted up the serpent for deliverance, so was Jesus lifted up on the Cross of Calvary for the deliverance of mankind from the clutches death and eternal damnation through the enemy.

Today, we are being faced with diverse challenges and issues of life. The good news is that the solution is more important and stronger than the problem.

Beloved, it is important to know that you have the choice to either look at what is happening to you or what is written in the Word of God. The existence of the poisonous serpent is not in doubt, but you must be aware that the serpent lifted up will cancel the effect of the venom of the one biting you.

So, the difference in your outcome in life is determined by where you are looking at per time. Whatever captures your attention captures your direction, and your attention sponsors distinction.

Make up your mind to look at God’s solution in His Word instead of analysing the problem of your life.

Remember This: Whatever captures your attention captures your direction, and your attention sponsors distinction.

Assignments:

1. Make up your mind to focus on God’s Word and not your situation.

2. Keep your gaze on God alone.

Prayer: O Lord, I look up to You for the sustenance of my life. I declare that there is no other god besides You Lord, in Jesus’ Name.

Topic: Hold On To Your Bill Of Right — Tuesday October 24, 2017.

“For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to everyone that believeth.” -(Romans 10:4 KJV)

Child of God it is important you begin to accept your true nature as a believer. Your nature is not based on what you are doing but on the gift God bestowed on you. God bestowed righteousness on you so that you can do right. What then is righteousness? It is the believer’s DNA. It is your root because you are made in the image of God. Righteousness is right standing with God. God wants you to know that in all conditions you can have right standing with him such that you are not afraid to approach him like Adam was after he fell into sin at the Garden of Eden. He was hiding from the very God he should have run to. Adam did not know that he was righteous.

Righteousness is the believer’s Bill of Right. It is what you wave at the devil in the face of any challenge. I guarantee you that the devil will attack, challenge, accuse and put you down but you must hold on to your Bill of Right. Righteousness is standing before God without any sense of sin, guilt, condemnation, inferiority complex or accusation. Righteousness is standing before God as though sin does not exist. Brother Mike, how did I become righteous? The very moment you accepted the Lordship of Jesus Christ, you became righteous. You do not need to do any other thing because your righteousness is your salvation benefit.

Righteousness is not based on your works as an individual. It is the work of Christ on Calvary that made us righteous. God’s acceptance of the children of Israel in the dispensation of the law for example is because of what Aaron was wearing. Now our High Priest, Jesus Christ has given us a perfect sacrifice. There is no sin in Him and so He perfected it in Himself so that when God sees His holiness in us, we are accepted. It is not about us but about Jesus. That should make you love Him more.

Text: Luke 11:29-36

Key Verse: "Take heed therefore that the light which is in thee be not darkness"(Luke 11:35).

Jesus drew appropriate lessons from prophet Jonah’s experience in Nineveh. The sign that was given through Jonah was his deliverance from the belly of the whale after he had been there for three days. In the same vein, the sign of Jesus’ resurrection after three days in the tomb would be the signal to His generation that He was indeed from God. Jesus also talked about the Queen of the South who sought Solomon’s wisdom.

Now, Jesus says He is greater than both, and deserves greater attention and honour. He warned therefore that the generations of Jonah and the Queen of the South would rise in judgment against those rejecting His message. Jesus also talked about the light of the body. He illustrated this with God’s true moral light that had come into the world through Him. However, only those who have an unprejudiced and pure heart are able to see this revelation from God. They are able to see because they are humble in heart.

One’s reaction to the light is proof of whether one’s heart is either full of light or darkness, for or against Him. Today, we should reflect on the redemptive work of Jesus on the Cross at Calvary. We should soberly reflect on the light He brought into the world. Having received the Word, we must continue to walk in it and allow our light to shine to illuminate the path of others to the glory of God.

Thought for the day: No man ever enjoys dominion whose spiritual eye is darkened.

Bishop David Oyedepo: The Power of Training in Fulfilling Destiny!

Topic: The Power of Training in Fulfilling Destiny!

From scriptures, we understand that we have a glorious destiny in Christ. However, training is one of the vital keys in fulfilling that glorious destiny. As children of God, we should be committed to effective and tireless training if we must see our glorious destinies fulfilled. By training, we mean engaging ‘the know-how factor’ in our field of endeavours.  People have great visions but, they lack the know-how. However, it is the know-how that drives our vision to fulfilment.

It is also important to recognise that our impact in life will only answer to the qualitative training we have acquired over time. For instance, I studied Architecture but when Jesus called me into ministry, I had to train myself for it because I had seen a professor fail in ministry. That means my academic capacity was not relevant because ministry is a profession with its own unique skills that must be acquired. So, I selected and studied 39 biographies of great ministries to be relevant in ministry.  By the time I came into full time ministry, I was 39 years ahead and more matured than my colleagues because I have bought into the minds of 39 great ministries which accelerated my success over the years. Therefore, it was an easy flight for me because there was the know-how. When we check through the biography of great leaders, we discover that they sustained their leadership through sustainable readership in their field. Erroneously, there are people in ministry today who have never read any book on ministry. In fact, there are some with a vision of a big church, but they will never learn how a big church is built.  This is because they are using common sense to build an uncommon church. There are some business men who know next to nothing in their businesses. No doubt, many people have great callings but they see little or no results. It is not that their callings are not genuine, but they lack the know-how, which cannot be impacted but acquired.

Furthermore, it is important to understand that schooling is not the same thing as training. Schooling is periodic but training is for life. This is one of the reasons there are many certified but uneducated people in the world. They have degrees but cannot deliver because they are not trained to do so. The account of David in the cave of Abdullam paints a graphic picture of the benefits of training in the life of any man. We saw how David gathered riffraffs under his tutelage and they became the mighty men of David. Although, they were men of no value i.e. human trash, training brought out the treasure in them.  Remember, it is one thing to know where we are going, and yet another to know what it takes to get there (I Samuel 23:8; Ecclesiastes 10:15).

No doubt, many of us know the city but we do not know what it takes to get there. That is where training comes in.

What are the requirements to get to the city?

Learning: Everyone at the top is a committed learner of arts and skills in his or her field. Don’t be deceived, an endowment is not a substitute for the demand of study. No matter the wisdom endowment we have, it is not a substitute for learning the know-how in our field of endeavours.

Discipline: This represents maintaining an orderly life. It is operating as demanded not as convenient. We need self-discipline to make any progress in life. Therefore let’s discipline ourselves so much that people would identify us only with our divine assignment on earth. In other words, go the extra mile, pay the extra price, take the extra steps and we will see ourselves at the top in no time.

Diligence: This means hard work. Many years ago, I saw in my Bible: Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men Proverbs (22:29).  From that scripture, I understood that how much we invest, in terms of time, energy and resources in our destinies today, would determine to a large extent where we stand tomorrow. In other words, it is the quality of our work that defines our ultimate worth. This is because there is no future for the idle man in the Kingdom. This is why the Bible says: Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap (Galatians 6:7). Therefore, the harder we work, the greater our level of delivery. If we are not hard workers, we would live hard lives.

Sacrifice: Sacrifice is going the extra mile, taking the extra steps and paying the extra price to deliver our vision. However, if it doesn’t cost us anything, then it is not a sacrifice. David said: …Neither will I offer burnt offerings unto the Lord my God of that which doth cost me nothing… (2 Samuel 24:24).

As we all know, there is no star without a scar. It takes the key of sacrifice, to gain access into the realm of sweat-less success. We must always remember that the benefits of sacrifice always outweigh its cost. Many want the success, but they don’t like the sacrifice because they forget that the cost is never greater than the glory. That’s why whenever it’s time to sacrifice, we must ignore the present and look to the future. For instance, Jesus for the joy that was set before Him endured the inconveniences of the cross, the beatings and the pains, so that we can be partakers of His glory (Hebrews 12:1-2).

In conclusion, I like you to understand therefore, that while everyone is a potential leader, only those who are willing to pay the price ever emerge a leaders. Thus, if we must actualise the destiny that God has ordained for us, we must be committed to effective and tireless training

Nevertheless, one step to successful living is being born-again. If you are not born-again, you are not entitled to it. Are you born again? If you are not, this is an opportunity to do so. Simply say the following prayer: Lord Jesus, I come to You today. I am a sinner. Forgive me my sins. Cleanse me with Your precious Blood. Today, I accept You as my Lord and Saviour. Thank You Jesus for saving me! Now I know I am born again!”  For further reading, please get my books: Success Strategies, Success Systems, Maximising Destiny, Exploring the Secrets of Success. David Abioye's Daily 24 October 2017 Devotional - Preparing For Opportunities

Topic: Preparing For Opportunities [Tuesday October 24, 2017]

It is our destiny as God’s children to be brought before great men, but it is our gifts (developed talents) that guarantee our access into such high places.

Opportunities are not as scarce; it is preparation that is lacking.

When opportunity meets with preparation, an unlimited man is about to emerge.

Preparation will always attract opportunities.

Talents are natural endowments. Gifts are developed talents.

Deut.28:1, 2

“And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments which I command thee this day, that the LORD thy God will set thee on high above all nations of the earth.

And all these blessings shall come on thee, and over take thee, if thou shalt hearken unto the voice of the LORD thy God.”

Prov.22:29

“seest thou a man diligent in his business? He shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. ”

The more you develop your talents and gifts the more marketable you become. Prov.18:16; 1 Sam.16:18, Dan.1:3-5, 8-9, 12-17.

Your gift is your “Bringer”.

Secret preparation sets the pace for public manifestation.

Read: Joshua 13:1-6

1 Now Joshua was old and stricken in years; and the LORD said unto him, Thou art old and stricken in years, and there remaineth yet very much land to be possessed.

2 This is the land that yet remaineth: all the borders of the Philistines, and all Geshuri,

3 From Sihor, which is before Egypt, even unto the borders of Ekron northward, which is counted to the Canaanite: five lords of the Philistines; the Gazathites, and the Ashdothites, the Eshkalonites, the Gittites, and the Ekronites; also the Avites:

4 From the south, all the land of the Canaanites, and Mearah that is beside the Sidonians unto Aphek, to the borders of the Amorites:

5 And the land of the Giblites, and all Lebanon, toward the sunrising, from Baalgad under mount Hermon unto the entering into Hamath.

6 All the inhabitants of the hill country from Lebanon unto Misrephothmaim, and all the Sidonians, them will I drive out from before the children of Israel: only divide thou it by lot unto the Israelites for an inheritance, as I have commanded thee.

Bible In One Year: Luke 5-6. Hymn: Sing Hymn 11 - Standing On The Promises Of Christ

MESSAGE:

Sometimes we think the word "occupy" means "keep yourself busy" alone; it means more than that. We must not keep ourselves busy doing nothing substantial. To understand the import of Christ's command in Luke 19:13 we must take a look at at the Bible reading of today.

It is beyond keeping ourselves busy just for its sake. The question now is, "Are we really occupying while we await His second coming?" We must preach the gospel to everyone we come in contact with, we must not leave any one unspoken to and we must do this while we ourselves remain pure as we await the coming of our Master. How well are you occupying as you wait for Him?

Action Point: Let us set a strategic plan to preach the gospel to everyone we have opportunity to preach to.

STANDING ON THE PROMISES OF CHRIST

1 Standing on the promises of Christ my King,

Through eternal ages let His praises ring,
Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing,
Standing on the promises of God.

Chorus
Standing, standing,
Standing on the promises of God my Savior;
Standing, standing,
I’m standing on the promises of God.

2 Standing on the promises that cannot fail,
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail,
By the living Word of God I shall prevail,
Standing on the promises of God. ~ Refrain

3 Standing on the promises I now can see
Perfect, present cleansing in the blood for me;
Standing in the liberty where Christ makes free,
Standing on the promises of God. ~ Refrain

4 Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord,
Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord,
Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword,
Standing on the promises of God. ~ Refrain

5 Standing on the promises I shall not fall,
List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call.
Resting in my Savior as my All in all,
Standing on the promises of God. ~ Refrain

Joel and Victoria Osteen’s daily October 24, 2017 devotional – Enter with This

Today’s Scripture: "Enter into His gates with thanksgiving, and into His courts with praise. Be thankful to Him, and bless His name."- (Psalm 100:4, NKJV)

Topic: Enter with This [Tuesday October 24, 2017]

As believers, we have the honor and privilege to enter boldly into God’s presence. Scripture says that we can come to His throne of grace and receive His mercy. Because He loves us, He has given us unlimited access to Himself 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

But notice that today’s verse tells us that we shouldn’t just come any old way to God. We shouldn’t come empty-handed to the King of kings and the Lord of lords. What can we bring? What do we have that’s worthy of Almighty God? Our praise. Our thanksgiving. Our worship. We are to enter His gates with an offering from our hearts of adoration because He is worthy!

We have to understand, praise isn’t just about singing songs on Sunday mornings. Praise is the expression of gratefulness to Father God for Who He is and all that He has done. Praise gets God’s attention. Praise is a powerful tool in the life of the believer because God inhabits our praises! When we enter His presence the right way, He enters our circumstances, and when God shows up, the enemy must flee! Today, enter into His gates with thanksgiving and open the door for Him to move on your behalf!

A Prayer for Today: Father, I come to You today with thanksgiving in my heart. I enter into Your courts with praise. Today I declare that You are good, and Your mercy endures forever! Have Your way in me by the power of Your Holy Spirit in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Memorise:For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning. – Psalm 30:5

Read: Job 1:13-19, Job 42:12-13 (KJV)

13 And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

14 And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them:

15 And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

16 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

17 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

18 While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house:

19 And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee.

Job 42:12-13

12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.

13 He had also seven sons and three daughters.

Bible in One Year: 1 Timothy 3-6, Daniel 11:36-45,Hymn: Sing Hymn 1 – My Faith Looks Up To Thee

MESSAGE:

If you will ever achieve anything tangible in life, you need faith that hinges on God and that believes in possibilities. If our God could frame the universe through His word, then there is no situation or circumstances beyond His control (Hebrews 11:3). There is no situation in your life that He cannot reverse. He can bring hope to your life irrespective of the long-standing problems in it. In John 5:1-8, we see the story of a man at the pool of Bethesda, who had been in the same sad condition for 38 years. He claimed that the reason why he had not been made whole was because he had no man to assist him; but by the time the Lord Jesus came to the scene, his problems ceased without the help of any man. Irrespective of the many years of rejection you have suffered, the Almighty God is attending to your situation right now in Jesus’ Name. There are families that have lost so many things. They have been through all sorts of problems. In Genesis 18:1-10, we have the account of Abraham and Sarah, who had waited several years for the fulfilment of God’s promise. The angels of God finally visited them and assured them that their long awaited blessing was on the way. Despite all the odds stacked against them physiologically, God’s purpose was established in their lives. I speak the word of God to every family going through pains: the Almighty God will definitely visit you and settle you in Jesus’ Name.

There are some people in business who are already planning to close down their offices and outlets because of the situation of things. I want you to know that your moment of refreshing is on the way. Don’t quit, because the Almighty God will restore to you all that you have lost. Today’s Bible reading narrates how Job lost everything he had, from his children to his investment. However, the scripture tells us that the Almighty God arose and blessed his latter end more than his beginning (Job 42:12). I want to assure you that irrespective of how harsh the economic climate is, the Almighty God will sort you out in Jesus’ Name. Also, there is hope for a nation. A closer look at all that is going on around the world would make anyone feel very uncomfortable. In 2 Kings 6:24-7:1, the economy of Samaria was very bad due to a siege. All the technocrats had tried all they could but things got out of hand. At the peak of this adverse situation, the man of God prophesised that things would change suddenly. Those who understand global economic indices said that this was impossible. The Almighty God however performed His word as He had spoken it. I announce to you that it is about to rain upon your life, family, career, business and nation in Jesus’ Name. God will intervene and put an end to your problems in Jesus’ Name.

Prayer Point: Father, let my joy begin now.

Memorise: Saying, Touch not mine anointed, and do my prophets no harm. – Psalm 105:15

Read: 2 Kings 1:1-15 (KJV)

1 Then Moab rebelled against Israel after the death of Ahab.

2 And Ahaziah fell down through a lattice in his upper chamber that was in Samaria, and was sick: and he sent messengers, and said unto them, Go, enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron whether I shall recover of this disease.

3 But the angel of the LORD said to Elijah the Tishbite, Arise, go up to meet the messengers of the king of Samaria, and say unto them, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that ye go to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron?

4 Now therefore thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die. And Elijah departed.

5 And when the messengers turned back unto him, he said unto them, Why are ye now turned back?

6 And they said unto him, There came a man up to meet us, and said unto us, Go, turn again unto the king that sent you, and say unto him, Thus saith the LORD, Is it not because there is not a God in Israel, that thou sendest to enquire of Baalzebub the god of Ekron? therefore thou shalt not come down from that bed on which thou art gone up, but shalt surely die.

7 And he said unto them, What manner of man was he which came up to meet you, and told you these words?

8 And they answered him, He was an hairy man, and girt with a girdle of leather about his loins. And he said, It is Elijah the Tishbite.

9 Then the king sent unto him a captain of fifty with his fifty. And he went up to him: and, behold, he sat on the top of an hill. And he spake unto him, Thou man of God, the king hath said, Come down.

10 And Elijah answered and said to the captain of fifty, If I be a man of God, then let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And there came down fire from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

11 Again also he sent unto him another captain of fifty with his fifty. And he answered and said unto him, O man of God, thus hath the king said, Come down quickly.

12 And Elijah answered and said unto them, If I be a man of God, let fire come down from heaven, and consume thee and thy fifty. And the fire of God came down from heaven, and consumed him and his fifty.

13 And he sent again a captain of the third fifty with his fifty. And the third captain of fifty went up, and came and fell on his knees before Elijah, and besought him, and said unto him, O man of God, I pray thee, let my life, and the life of these fifty thy servants, be precious in thy sight.

14 Behold, there came fire down from heaven, and burnt up the two captains of the former fifties with their fifties: therefore let my life now be precious in thy sight.

15 And the angel of the LORD said unto Elijah, Go down with him: be not afraid of him. And he arose, and went down with him unto the king.

Bible in One Year: 2 Timothy 1-4, Daniel 12, Hymn: Sing Hymn 15 – The Comforter Has Come

MESSAGE:

Although the anointing in the life of the anointed can have a positive impact on people’s lives, it can also take actions which have adverse effects against those who abuse the anointed or treat him or her spitefully. The Holy Spirit therefore gave us the warning in today’s memory verse to avoid being on the receiving end of such grave actions. This reminds me of the sad story of a pastor who tried to humiliate my father-in-the-Lord, Pastor Josiah Akindayomi, during his lifetime. Sadly, this fellow became leprous and died. This is similar to the tragic story in today’s Bible reading. Ahaziah, the king of Samaria, tried to lay his hands on Elijah, God’s anointed prophet. What was the prophet’s crime? God sent Elijah to point out to him that it was wrong for him to have sent emissaries to consult a strange god for his healing, in defiance of God’s law (Deuteronomy 18:10-11). God’s warning, if heeded, normally brings forgiveness and restoration, as demonstrated in Jonah 3:10, when the people of Nineveh repented of their sins. Unfortunately, Instead of crying to the merciful God of Israel, the king ordered the prophet’s arrest. Is this the right response to a message of warning from God? Before you respond to this, think of how you also feel whenever your pastor hands down a strong sermon to you in an effort to make you repent and be delivered from both present and eternal damnation. The story of King Ahaziah’s foolish actions ends in tragedy, not only for him but also for the soldiers he sent to arrest the anointed of God.
Coming up next: Open Heavens 26 October 2017: Thursday daily devotional by Pastor Adeboye – As You Lay Your Bed!
There are many lessons to learn and pray about from this story. First and foremost, we must pray for our bad leaders, because when God’s judgment comes, even the innocent may not escape the outcome. Secondly, children of God must always know whether any assignment they are given is of God or of the devil, and they should ask God for wisdom to go about it. I remember some policemen who wanted to extort money from my entourage some years ago. The moment I told their leader, “There is always a last assignment for every individual on earth”, he understood and let us go. If he had not repented, that would have been his last outing, because it was not I who spoke but the Holy Spirit. Thirdly, ministers of God should always live above board so that God’s anointing can fight on their behalf. Elijah said “If I be a man of God…”. As a pastor, evangelist or prophet, can you confidently say you are a man of God? Have you burnt you spiritual fingers in the fire of sin and covered it up as if nothing happened? If you are in such a situation, repent today, so that the anointing can resume its defence on your life. For those fond of ridiculing the anointed of God, be careful, so that you don’t experience the adverse effects of the anointing. May the peace of God be with you.

Action Point: If you’ve spitefully treated the anointed of God, repent and pray for forgiveness and healing.

Our Daily Bread 25 October 2017 Devotional – Surviving the Wilderness

Topic: Surviving the Wilderness — Wednesday October 25, 2017.

Read: Exodus 17:1–7, Bible in a Year: Jeremiah 6–8; 1 Timothy 5

The message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed. Hebrews 4:2

In the 1960s, the Kingston Trio released a song called “Desert Pete.” The ballad tells of a thirsty cowboy who is crossing the desert and finds a hand pump. Next to it, Desert Pete has left a note urging the reader not to drink the water in the jar left there but to use its contents to prime the pump.

The cowboy resists the temptation to drink and uses the water as the note instructs. In reward for his obedience, he receives an abundance of cold, satisfying water. Had he not acted in faith, he would have had only a jar of unsatisfying, warm water to drink.

This reminds me of Israel’s journey through the wilderness. When their thirst became overwhelming (Ex. 17:1–7), Moses sought the Lord. He was told to strike the rock of Horeb with his staff. Moses believed and obeyed, and water gushed from the stone.

Sadly, Israel would not consistently follow Moses’s example of faith. Ultimately, “the message they heard was of no value to them, because they did not share the faith of those who obeyed” (Heb. 4:2).

Sometimes life can seem like an arid desert. But God can quench our spiritual thirst in the most unlikely circumstances. When by faith we believe the promises of God’s Word, we can experience rivers of living water and grace for our daily needs.

Prayer: Help us to place our trust in You, Lord. You are what our heart thirsts after.

Only Jesus, the Living Water, can satisfy our thirst for God.

Insight:

Three days after the Israelites left Egypt, the water they brought along was depleted. Finding no drinkable water in the Desert of Shur, they grumbled against Moses, and God miraculously made bitter water into good water (Ex. 15:22–25). Soon their food supplies ran out, and they complained again. God miraculously fed them with manna and quail (16:1–36). As they approached Sinai, they complained yet again of no water (17:1–2). God had already shown them He could provide the water and food they needed. All they had to do was to trust Him! (Deut. 8:2; Ps. 81:7–8).

Consider how God has been faithful to provide for your physical needs. How has He satisfied your spiritual thirst?

Billy Graham’s Daily 25 October 2017 Devotional: Cure Discouragement

Topic: Cure Discouragement [Wednesday October 25, 2017]

Wait on the Lord, be of good courage . . . —Psalm 27:14

Discouragement is nothing new. Many of the great Bible characters became discouraged. Moses in the Sinai desert; Elijah when he heard Jezebel was searching for him to take his life; and David when his son Absalom rebelled against him. It is as old as the history of man.

There is often a cause for discouragement. It comes many times when we don’t get our way, when things don’t work out the way we want them to. Discouragement is the opposite of faith. It is Satan’s device to thwart the work of God in your life. Discouragement blinds our eyes to the mercy of God and makes us perceive only the unfavorable circumstances.

I have never met anyone who spent time in daily prayer, and in the study of the Word of God, and was strong in faith, who was ever discouraged for very long.

Prayer for the day: Lord, when I am discouraged, take away the blindness of my wavering faith. You are with me always. Forgive my ungrateful heart.

John 15:4 "Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me."

Text: John 15:4

This is a profound truth, that is the key to bearing fruit, but it is so easy to forget. Because the fruit is borne on the branch, it is easy to credit the branch with the fruit, when it is the vine that drew the life from the earth and channeled it through the branch.

Likewise, since we are the branch through which the life of God flows, we sometimes think that it is our own holiness that produces the fruit. The moment we think that way, we are no longer abiding (trusting in; clinging to) in the vine and we will become fruitless if we persist in this mind set.

This is actually a great relief if the believer understands this and applies it properly. It puts all the responsibility on Jesus. Our only responsibility is to respond to His ability. In the same way that you have never seen a branch travailing to bring forth fruit, so all we have to do is labor to enter into His rest (trust and depend) and completely trust Jesus as our source (Heb. 4:11). If we abide in Him, fruit will come naturally.

It's our faith in what Jesus did for us that saved us, and our faith has to continue to be in Christ, not in ourselves, to maintain salvation. Our holiness, righteousness, and justification are gifts that we receive in our spirits through Jesus.

Just like the life of a root is found in the soil, or a branch in the vine, or a fish in the sea, so the believer's true life is found in the union with Christ.

Our Daily Manna October 25, 2017: ODM devotional – When A River Deviates…

Topic: When A River Deviates… [Wednesday, October 25, 2017]

Basic Scripture: Philippians 3:8-15

When a river deviates from its course, what happens? It ends up forming a stagnant lake, giving its environment filth and foul air. Eventually it dries up, unable to reach the sea, its destination.

Welcome to today’s meditation! The year is in its last quarter already and after all the hullabaloo (noise) and talk of New Year resolutions, prayers, January and July worldwide fasting programmes, holiness lifestyle, etc, it will amaze you to know that many are still discouraged and frightened about the remaining days of the year. Oh! Many are saying things like: “SO ANOTHER YEAR IS ENDING WITHOUT MY MIRACLE? No, refuse to dwell in that camp! Be like a flowing river of life. You must resist the wicked gates of hell against such thoughts of discouragement and secret bitterness.

No matter what is happening around you, you must never deviate from your goals. Have you not read of River Niger? Most great rivers are narrow midway! Refuse to give up! God will see you through! Declare many times before continuing to read this write-up: “A knock down is not a knock out! A delay is not a denial.” Achievers do not give up midway into their goals. Yes, the 52 weeks of this year are gradually going, but God’s DIVINE CALENDAR concerning you is still on course! He has so many 52 weeks (years) ahead of your life! Do not write the last chapter of your life by yourself!

This is because God has not finished with you and success is not a destination. Success is a journey, a continuous process. Oh, refuse to stop now! You must not deviate from your course! There are so many prospects ahead for you and your family. Paul said, “One thing I do (it is my one inspiration), forgetting what lies behind and staining forward to what lies ahead.”

(Amplified Bible). Do the same! Be this minded (Vs 13)! Always remember: A knock down is not a knock out; a delay is not a denial! Strain forward! Pray now: “Lord, I must finish my course, plans and purposes. My life and ministry must experience tangible EVIDENCE and advancement at the end of this year” (Pray it very well now). I subdue any plan to deviate and distract me in Jesus mane. Bulldoze distraction now!

Prayer Points: Take your best worship song to God.

1. Worship the Lord and just adore Him.

2. Thank Him for believing in you in all His creation.

3. Lord, let my enemies be your enemies as 2017 ends.

4. Still pray about your goals in 2017. Pray in tongues.

5. Pray about today and generally as you are led on any other issue(s).

Topic: You Are Mighty In Christ — Wednesday October 25, 2017.

“And the angel of the Lord appeared unto him, and said unto him, The Lord is with thee, thou mighty man of valour.” (Judges 6:12 KJV)

Whether we like it or not there is a battle going on in the realm of the spirit. And it is getting stronger and stronger because the devil knows that he is running out of time. The devil is shooting at random, hoping that he will get somebody who has lost his place. But there is a place that God has prepared for you so that when the enemy is shooting he does not get you. You ought not be worried but be relaxed knowing that our God is at work and whatever he has started shall be perfected. If you don’t know how to comport yourself you can still be a believer and the devil will lord it over you because you don’t know how to position yourself spiritually.

According to Judges Chapters 6, the Israelites would labour only for the Midianites to take their harvest. Then God appeared to Gideon and said the Lord is with you, you mighty man of valour. And Gideon said: If the Lord is with us where are the miracles, where are those promises you made? Why are we encountering these challenges? Why are things turning upside down for me? Some of us have been asking similar questions. If God is with me, why am I still sick? Why have I not gotten that job? Why am I still experiencing financial difficulties and challenges?

Now notice what God said to Gideon: “Go in this your might.” God was saying in essence: I believe in what I have put inside you. The fact is that some of us don’t have faith in what we have. We don’t trust what God has put in us though we keep quoting “greater is he that is in me, than he that is in the world.” The question is do you really believe that the greater one lives inside you? Do you really believe that you are mighty in Christ? I announce to you today that the powers of this world will not prevail over you.
